Tristan’s Fight Against the YIPS

Tristan came to us struggling with the YIPS, topping 74 on pulldowns and 68 on catching throwdowns with no idea what to do.

The YIPS had completely locked up his body. It wouldn’t allow him to be athletic at all. He wasn’t just throwing slow—he was trapped inside his own motion. And if you’ve ever battled the YIPS

you know how suffocating that feels.

The first goal wasn’t velocity. It wasn’t mechanics. It was something much deeper: we had to make his body feel athletic again. That had to come first.

This was where everything started to click. For the first time in a very long time, he could feel that athleticism again. His movements weren’t forced—they were free. And when you’ve been locked up for so long, that moment is life-changing.

But baseball is never a straight line forward. As soon as we unlocked his athleticism, a new problem showed up. His arm started getting really stabby. The inconsistency in his arm action created all kinds of different movement on the ball. That made it nearly impossible to trust his throw, and it wasn’t helping where we were.

We worked to get rid of the stabby arm action, to clean it up, and to build consistency into every throw.

And it paid off.

It was in this moment—the one you see in the video—where the arm started to click. And when the arm clicked, his mentality did too. Confidence replaced hesitation.

Not too long later, he was up to 82 on pulldowns. And today, he’s up to 84.

Tristan, you’re an absolute beast. You took one of the hardest battles in baseball and turned it into a victory. Not many players can say they’ve overcome the YIPS. You didn’t just survive it—you grew from it. That’s what makes this so special.

And for anyone else out there fighting the same battle: Tristan’s story is proof that the YIPS don’t have to be the end of the road. With the right approach, you can break free, rediscover your athleticism, and unlock the pitcher you’ve always been meant to be.
